PHOENIX - Robert W’s experience with working as a person who has an intellectual disability has been frustrating for him to say the least. He says his disability often prevents him from working or discourages him from trying to find a job.
Until now.
With the grand opening of Flerish, Design + Resale, many intellectually disabled people such as Robert can put their anxieties about working aside. The 3,000 square-foot store, which plans to open up for business November 2nd, will be ran by Civitan Foundation, a local non-profit that strives to improve the lives of special-needs adults.

The 3,000 square-foot store, which plans to open up for business November 2nd, will be ran by Civitan Foundation, a local non-profit that strives to improve the lives of special-needs adults.
The employees of the store will be Civitan members with jobs such as sales associate, cashier, receiving, and janitorial; all jobs that most members have been aiming for, for many years.
“I don’t care what I do,” Robert said. “I’ll be happy with sweeping floors, stacking things or what [have you]. I will just be glad to work.”

The store will sell items as varied as furniture, clothing, and jewelry. It will also showcase, and make available for purchase, fine art canvases created by Civitan’s members, which have been featured at art shows around the state.
The store is located at 12621-12625 N. Crave Creak Road in Phoenix, just north of Cactus Road. Civitan also runs a thrift store in Williams Arizona, with the Phoenix store focusing on more fashionable items.
Civitan is now accepting inventory donations for the store. In addition, they are looking for applicants to help coach employees during their shifts. There will be one job coach needed for every two employees. There are an expected 50 shifts to be available, allowing for immense opportunity.
